ABOUT US
Abide Family Center is located on Kamuli Road in Mpumudde, Jinja City, Uganda. It opened its doors in June 2013 with the goal to reduce the number of children living in orphanages in Uganda and empower families to stay together. We wanted to meet parents in that moment when they wanted to place their children in institutional homes.
A choice to keep their babies and stay together as a family.
Beyond keeping families together, the staff at Abide Family Center, comprising of local Ugandans works hand in hand to help families move from surviving to thriving hence equipping them with resources to develop the means and life style to provide for their families and parent their children well.
It is estimated that over 80% of the children living in orphanages in Uganda have at least one living parent, guardian or family. These children are being raised away from their families because of poverty, NOT because they are unloved or unwanted. At Abide we believe children grow best in families and that poverty should not be the reason children are placed in orphanages. We saw an incredible need for prevention work. We saw a need to create a model that would respond to the needs of the families who love their children but are placing their children in orphanages because of poverty.
Abide family Center works in line with the alternative care frame work as designed by the ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development.
